Systemic intervention for computer-supported collaborative learning

This paper presents a systemic intervention approach as a means to overcome the methodological challenges involved in research into computer-supported collaborative learning applied to the promotion of mathematical problem-solving (CSCL-MPS) skills in schools. These challenges include how to develop an integrated analysis of several aspects of the learning process; and how to reflect on learning purposes, the context of application and participants' identities. The focus of systemic intervention is on processes for thinking through whose views and what issues and values should be considered pertinent in an analysis. Systemic intervention also advocates mixing methods from different traditions to address the purposes of multiple stakeholders. Consequently, a design for CSCL-MPS research is presented that includes several methods. This methodological design is used to analyse and reflect upon both a CSCL-MPS project with Colombian schools, and the identities of the participants in that project

Enhancing Human Schwann Cells Reparative Behavior using Heparin/Collagen Layer-by-layer Coatings

When a peripheral nerve injury (PNI) occurs, the gold standard for tissue regeneration is the use of autografts. However, due to the secondary effects produced by multiple surgeries involved in the removal and implantation of autografts for very small lesions, it is possible to replace them with the use of Nerve Guide Conduits (NGCs). However, NGCs are limited to short lesions (less than 1 cm). This limitation is caused by the absence of compounds in the extracellular matrix (ECM) that autografts can provide. Since much of the regenerative process takes place on the NGC surface, our work aims to modify its surface using heparin and collagen coatings, two natural polymers present in the ECM. Heparin/collagen bilayers (HEP/COL) will increase biocompatibility, cell adhesion and migration, and allow the incorporation of neurotrophic factors such as Nerve Growth Factor (NGF). This research evaluates the effects on human Schwann cells (hSCs) when cultured on a commercial collagen NGC under four conditions: without coatings and with six heparin/collagen bilayers (HEP/COL)6 with and without NGF supplemented to the culture medium (10 ng/ml). We have exhaustively characterized (HEP/COL)6 coatings. The chemical structures of the polymers, the morphology, and the surface charge of the coatings could be determined. Real-time analysis of hSCs behavior showed three main phases: adhesion, proliferation, and adaptation. The adhesion phase was increased in the conditions with (HEP/COL)6, and the viability studies showed an increase of up to 250% compared to cells grown on polystyrene without coatings. The cell morphology has never been altered by (HEP/COL)6, as well as the morphology of the coated NGC. Cell migration was favored, and (HEP/COL)6 also increased the expression of some proteins such as BDNF, which promotes the duration of the myelination process, or TNF alpha, which is a mediator of inflammatory and immune functions. Concerning the surface modification of a commercial NGC, these studies showed an increase of more than 200% in cell viability when compared to uncoated NGCs. We also determined the presence of heparin and evidenced the cell adhesion on (HEP/COL)6 coated NGCs. In conclusion, (HEP/COL)6 seems to be a promising strategy to improve the performance of NGCs

ADQUISICIÓN Y PROCESAMIENTO DE SEÑALES EMG PARA CONTROLAR MOVIMIENTO DE UN BRAZO HIDRAULICO

En este artículo se presenta el diseño e implementación de un sistema electrónico para el registro de las señales electromiográficas de la extremidad superior del sujeto (humano). Seguidamente al proceso de la implementación del sistema electrónico, en este trabajo se realiza una etapa de pre-procesamiento y procesamiento de las señales registradas, las técnicas utilizadas para éste fin son: análisis wavelet (AW), análisis de componentes principales (ACP), transformada de fourier (TF), transformada del coseno discreta (DCT), máquinas de soporte vectorial (SVM) y redes neuronales artificiales (RNA); estas técnicas se usaron para eliminar información poco relevante, reconocer zonas de interés, extraer patrones en cada grupo de señales y clasificar una nueva señal que controle en forma precisa el movimiento que quiere ejecutar el sujeto con el brazo Hidráulico. Dentro de las técnicas de control de procesos Industriales se busca realizar una aplicación con el fin de poder hacer control a dos grados de libertad más el efector final del brazo hidráulico del laboratorio de automatización y mantenimiento de equipos industriales de la Universidad de Pamplona

Double acute appendicitis: cecal and epiploic; literature review of a case report

Acute cecal appendicitis and appendagitis are two entities due to the inflammation of the cecal and epiploic appendix respectively. A case of a 34-year-old woman is presented, who is admitted for abdominal pain. Initial blood test and ultrasonography were not conclusive, subsequently with clinical deterioration, surgical intervention was required which noted acute appendicitis and appendicitis that were removed. This is an extremely unusual case, since the simultaneous presentation of these two entities has not been widely described and demonstrates the importance of exploring the abdominal and pelvic cavity in patients with suspected diagnosis of acute appendicitis

A matrix approach for the semiclassical and coherent orthogonal polynomials

We obtain a matrix characterization of semiclassical orthogonal polynomials in terms of the Jacobi matrix associated with the multiplication operator in the basis of orthogonal polynomials, and the lower triangular matrix that represents the orthogonal polynomials in terms of the monomial basis of polynomials. Intrathyroid parathyroid adenoma: report of two cases and literature review

Approximately 80% of patients with primary hyperparathyroidism have a parathyroid adenoma, with surgery being the only definitive treatment. Sometimes in surgery there is difficulty in identifying the pathological parathyroid gland at which time the possibility of ectopic parathyroid should be considered. We present two cases of patients which after hemithyroidectomy histopathological report, reported intrathyroid parathyroid adenoma. Intrathyroid parathyroid adenomas are an infrequent presentation of parathyroid adenomas that require high clinical suspicion if they are not detected by imaging studies in the preoperative period

Colecta de tejido foliar, extracción de ADN y envío de muestras en poblaciones de Megathyrsus maximus (Pm21) e híbridos interespecíficos de Urochloa sp (Br19) para secuenciación genómica.

El proceso aplicado en las poblaciones de Megathyrsus maximus (Pm21) e híbridos interespecíficos de Urochloa sp. (Br19) consistió en la colecta de hojas, extracción, purificación, cualificación, cuantificación y preparación del ADN para ser enviado al International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) en Kenia y el Earlham Institute (EI) en Reino Unido respectivamente. En el caso de los genotipos Pm21, una vez extraído el ADN fue necesario desarrollar una prueba basada en diluir a diferentes concentraciones el ADN (100 ng/μl, 300 ng/μl y 25 μl del stock) y liofilizarlo a una presión aproximada de 0,001 mbar durante un periodo de 24 horas. Para la regeneración de este, se agregó 35 μl de agua ultrapura, a cada muestra, ocho días después con el objetivo de estandarizar el procedimiento de liofilización en forrajes tropicales

La producción de ganado es importante en gran número de países a nivel mundial, por tal motivo los esfuerzos de la investigación se han fijado en la producción de mecanismos o metodologías que proporcionen soluciones a mediano y largo plazo para evitar pérdidas a gran escala, es por eso, que en CIAT se evalúan genotipos frente al ataque por salivazo. Manual didáctico dirigido a padres de familia y cuidadores de los niños y niñas del jardín pedagógico pinarín para fortalecer la formación en valores y virtudes

109 Páginas.La investigación realizada tiene el propósito de orientar al núcleo familiar donde los estudiantes del Jardín Pedagógico Pinarín desarrollan los procesos de infancia y como resultado del proceso se diseñó un manual didáctico sobre valores y virtudes para padres de familia y cuidadores. El proyecto se enmarcó en la metodología investigación acción que permite construir valores importantes en la formación de los niños y niñas en edad preescolar. El manual una vez terminado se socializó a través de un taller donde la conclusión final deja entrever que los diferentes actores del proceso educativo y el equipo investigador, comparten la inquietud sobre la formación en valores y virtudes de los niños y el cómo los viven en su futuro.
